Hi, I’m Lara McSherry.

A smiling woman with blonde hair, wearing a green sweater, leaning on a beige couch in a living room with a large abstract painting on the wall behind her.

My goal is simple: to create a space where you feel genuinely safe to express yourself. I believe the most meaningful therapy is also a place of growth, where you're actively challenged, putting in real work, and moving toward the life and the version of yourself you actually want. I'm not here just to listen — I'm here to help you get somewhere.

At the heart of my approach is a deep belief in your ability to trust yourself. Together, we work to build your confidence in tolerating discomfort, understanding your reactions, and making meaning of what's happening in your life. I hope to help you see the full complexity of who you are so you can face difficult situations with greater clarity. I'm especially drawn to exploring root causes — not just managing anxiety or stress in the moment, but slowing down to understand what's feeding it beneath the surface. That's where the real shifts happen.

My ideal client is someone who senses that their current way of moving through the world isn't quite working anymore — and who feels ready to explore why. I don't believe therapy is about perfection. It's about understanding yourself more deeply and living more intentionally.

My practice is based in a cozy, peaceful office in Fremont, and I work hard to make every part of the experience feel warm and inviting. I can also meet with you via telehealth from the comfort of your own home. Outside of the therapy room, you'll find me cooking, going to live music, spending time with friends and family, and exploring the city with my dog. I bring all of that — my warmth, my curiosity, my personality — into the work I do with clients.

Getting Started with Lara

  • I offer a complimentary 20 minute consultation. This is an opportunity for us to discuss scheduling and logistics, review policies, and begin brief introduction to therapeutic process. This is also a time for you to share what you are wanting out of therapy.

Please use the link below to find a time in my schedule that works for you! If you are a couple, please make sure you book the session as a couple with both you and your partner’s information.

  • Once you schedule your consultation, I will send over some brief intake paper. This is a short questionnaire to get essential information from you and the informed consent.

I prefer to send this prior to the consultation, so you have the ability to review all of my practice policies and determine if it feels like a good fit for you! All paperwork needs to be completed prior to the start of our consultation. If you have questions or concerns, please let me know!

You will also receive a prompt to put your credit card on file. I require all clients to have a card on file. Your card will be automatically charged $25 prior to the consultation.

  • All consultations are held via telehealth. If you are interested in in-person therapy, we will use the consultation to discuss scheduling options then.

At the end of the consultation, I will send over a more thorough intake form that will let me know more about you but also provides a great opportunity for more reflection.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long are sessions?

Most sessions are 53 minutes long. There are times when it makes sense to meet for shorter sessions (30 minutes) or longer sessions (90 minutes). If I believe you will benefit from a longer or shorter session, I will let you know!

How often do we meet?

I meet with most of my clients on a weekly or biweekly cadence. When it comes to scheduling, I try to offer as much flexibility as I can to support times that work with your calendar.

How much do your sessions cost?

Sessions are $160 for 53 minutes.

If you are joining a group, the price of the session will be listed with the group information, as this may vary.

What is your cancellation policy?

Please give 24 hour notice if you need to cancel or reschedule your appointment. Any cancellations made within the 24-hour window will be subject to the cancellation fee, which is the cost of your session. No shows are charged 100% of the session fee.

Are you supervised?

Yes! As an associate therapist, I am required by the state of Washington to have my work supervised while I am working on meeting the required hours for full licensure. My supervisor ensures that I am providing the best level of care possible to all my clients. If you have any questions about this, let me know!

Do you take my insurance?

Many clients choose to use their out-of-network benefits and are able to receive reimbursement for sessions.

I’ve partnered with Mentaya to make the out-of-network reimbursement process easier. Mentaya will submit claims to your insurance company on your behalf and track the reimbursement process for you. If your plan includes out-of-network benefits, your insurance company will send reimbursement directly to you (either by check or direct deposit, depending on your plan).

If this is something you’d like to explore, I am happy to walk you through the process and answer any questions you may have. Reimbursement rate is dependent on your plan and benefits.

How long will I be in therapy?

Length of therapy is determined by many factors, but ultimately, I take a client-driven approach. This means that determining length of therapy is a collaborative process.

People come to therapy for so many reasons. Many of my clients are looking for long term therapy work, which means pushing deeper than surface issues. Or they may be in ongoing situations where they benefit from the weekly support.
